Airport underlay takes off

There are few places where underlay has a harder time than in airports. Footfall runs into millions and the wheels of baggage trolleys have the potential to do untold damage to anything but the highest quality carpets and underlay.

At Incheon Airport in South Korea Duralay’s Durafit 500 has been used at every stage of the airport’s development. The underlay was supplied via the United Agencies division of Heritage Carpets in Singapore. This family-owned company was established in 1936 and has been in the floorcovering business since 1952. Currently it has offices and warehousing both in Singapore and Malaysia and is doing international business covering over eighteen countries in South Asia, ASEAN and the Asia Pacific region At the helm of the business are Shashi Lal Kashyap, Praveen Kashyap and Sandeep Puri. They are supported by a staff of fifty. United Agencies has been associated with the Duralay brand for thirty years. With respect to its most recent contracts, Shashi Kashyap explained, “We have been supplying Durafit 500 to Incheon Airport since its first phase of development in 2001. The second phase was completed in 2007 and this year we will supply a further 24,000 sq.m. for phase three. This brings the total business to 54,000 sq.m. so far.” United Agencies supplied the underlay for the project in partnership with Hanil Carpets, one of the largest specialist flooring companies in South Korea.

At Singapore’s Changi Airport, which opened on January 9th 2008, Arista Interior Décor recommended and supplied 50,000 sq.m., or 3,300 rolls, of Durafit 500 double stick in Terminal 3, primarily at the departure gates. Arista’s sales manager, Simon Ong, commented, “Changi is a very important and prestigious project for Singapore. Only the best will do, so we naturally chose Durafit 500 – it is well proven in these kinds of installation.”
